Ouija Interview

Ouija (3A - Transcend) is an known to be an elite letterist. Here's the exclusive interview with 00G.

00G - Who are you & what are you doing later today?
Ouija - I'm just a regular guy, I guess. Unfortunately, I have to go to work in an hour.

Do you paint & why?
I try to paint as much as I can. During the winter I concentrate more on canvas work, and when it gets warm I go out and paint graffiti more often.

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in New Britain, Connecticut.

Where are you going?
Absolutely nowhere. Haha. Hopefully I can catch a break and do well on the gallery scene, maybe some commercial illustration or something of that nature.

Is spray paint a precise medium?
I think it can be. It probably has one of the hardest learning curves of any painting medium. I'm still learning new techniques 11 years later.

What's your favorite letter?
In my name, my favorite letter is definitely A. Honestly, my letters suck. There's really no difference between a lowercase and capital with most of them. Aside from my own name, I really enjoy the letter E, because it's a fairly complex shape and it's easy to tweak it out in a ton of different ways. S can be fun and challenging, too.

How much does style have to do with practice?
Pretty much everything. Natural talent helps to some degree, but mostly just pushes a ton of practice over the edge into something truly special. It's like icing on the cake.

Drips, good or bad?
Drips can be the freshest thing when used as an aesthetic device, but when they're there as a result of poor craftsmanship, they're the worst. Writers should take a little more pride in their work. When we're all dead and gone, I personally don't want my body of work to say that I'm a half assed, lazy scumbag.

What's a wildstyle?
I guess wildstyle is any piece of graffiti that's kinda kard to read. I don't think it has to look a certain way, it just has to be a little confusing to the eye.

From a fine arts point of view, how much is a wildstyle worth?
Probably not a lot, according to an art critic. It's probably in the same category as cartooning and comic book art. Then again, Lichtenstein elevated low art to high art. Who knows. You'd have to ask whoever decides what art is important, and what isn't. I personally think it's very interesting and a lot of the pieces i see belong in galleries.

Silver, what's up with that?
Silver. Well, it covers very well, but can be really hard to outline on some surfaces. I personally stick with flat white.

Arrows, what's up with that?
Haha. Arrows are fucking awesome, dude! My personal theory is to jam an arrow anywhere I can fit it. I've done walls where I have all the arrows in my piece pointing to my homie's piece that I really like. Arrows are like a religious icon to graff writers.
